GPPL 2020 - Highlights

GPPL Weekend 1: 5 Highlights from the weekend

    Nick "Mohammed Abbas" Haupt

With pace and bounce stealing the show on Saturday, Nicholas "Mohammed Abbas" Haput wound forward the years for the Titans against the Seapoint Strikers. Young Nicholas gave a full account of himself to the senior GPPC players snaring two vital Strikers wickets, adding to his tally of 80 test wickets.

Highest average of the weekend - Pieter van Dyk

In a show of pure dominance, Pieter van Dyk of the Greenpoint Goblins took to the tournament like a fish...to water. Although we await final stats as this is written, talk around the club is that the all rounder averaged as much as 4 beers per innings.

Joel Wallace himself has been quoted describing Pieters performace as "an onslaught unlike anything I saw in my playing days."

Bradford Basson manages to get in some cricket on potjie day

Bradford may be new to the club, but we know two things about him: 1. He loves a potjie 2. He has a mean short ball

    WGPPL 2021?

In a turnout surpassed only by Elreeve Titus, the WAG's showed in force this weekend. We can all agree that having the WAG's down to watch as we cling onto those childhood dreams makes us feel all important and stuff which is super nice of them. A thank you to all those involved in making the day that much better for all the WAG's by distracting them from the cricket.

Cheers to the WAG's! How does 22 Saturdays a year sound?

4 Teams tied at the top going into next weekend!

This weekend threw some seriously good cricket at us (and some seriously not so good cricket). If this weekend is anything to go by, the cobwebs look like they've come off quickly around the GPCC! We look in strong shape as a club heading into the league season (by the good graces of Uncle Cyril).

    Honourable mentions

The Joel Wallace Cricket Club - In the least hostile takeover ever, Joel Wallace has finally managed to secure the naming rights to the GPCC. If you don't find this funny, use Snapscan.
The Seapoint Strikers setting a full cordon & getting stick a from it. Pity about that second one!
Zac Elkin spotted with someone new on his arm - Dune unavailable for comment.
    Stu's Dancing...check the group!
Reevy goes full Herschelle Gibbs minus the cricket.
    Savo gets switch hit!?
Mauritz Jordaan picks David Boon ahead of himself as captain.

Be it the level of cricket or the overall mood surrounding the club this weekend, the GPPL is off to an incredible start. Roll on weekend 2!
